Nail Gandhi by sana24 Nail Gandhi by sana24
Those are all nails.. 30" x 36"....
Behold my masterpiece Nail Gandhi! This is a giant sculpture I made by hammering nails to a large board... All those dots are nails O.O (extreme stippling....) This took about 6 months and was very painful and frustrating. but it looks amazing in the end :)

sadly this is the only picture I have of this piece :(

WOW, this is absolutely breathtaking!:D
Where did you build this?
Did you draw/map it out first, or was it "Freehand"?

Thank you :) I made this for my art class during my senior year. I printed out a photo I created of Gandhi over the summer, blew it up in photoshop and printed out squares for reference as where to put the nails

That's a very interesting medium to work with! I might understand how painful it can be to hammer some of those, especially the ones that are very close together, but a great result nonetheless considering its limits

6 months?

This type of effort deserves more views than those famous people that spend like 3 hours doodling something and get 1000 views in a day or whatever.

GOOD WORK! Faved.

I love this  The way you have taken the photograph with the shadows of the nails works really well. The only thing I would suggest is cropping the photograph now so you can't see the bits behind it.

Just out of interest: How much does this wight??:D

I like this way of sculpture,I'm just thinking that maybe it would be a bit clearer with nails deeper in the wood at some places (eyes)? :)

It looks better with a head on view, unfortunately this is the only picture I have of it currently.. and it's not too heavy, maybe 20-30lbs? It's light enough that a wimpy teenage girl can lift it :D

Oh my! That's incredible! :D That's some incredible stuff. I'm not much of a sculptor, but this is pretty creative. Did you use some sort of reference photo? Terrific piece. :3

Thank you! This is actually based off a stippled piece of Ghandi I did, I then blew up the photo and used that as a guide to hit the nails

That's pretty cool

I couldn't imagine trying to hammer in that many nails straight, and without bending the ones already in place :omg:

Thank you :)

I was ready to kill someone by the end of this project. Sometimes I'd hit my finger with the hammer then I'd start bashing it with with the hammer, other times I felt guilty putting nails in Gandhi's face...
